Match Reports U9 Blues

 2nd December

Guildford Saints Blues, Home to Hart Royals

What a great game of football today.  We were hosting the only team in the league who have yet to lose a game after our last two results of losing 3 - 0 and 5 - 1, so I didn't have the slightest hope that we would win, just hoping to avoid another 8 - 0 whitewash.  My fears were confirmed when they scored after less than 5 minutes with a well taken corner.  But then we equalised with Jamie putting Andrew through on the keeper and burying the ball in the back of the net.  Things got better soon after that when Jamie again "ran interference" to confuse the defence, allowing Cameron to make one of his runs and prod the ball past the goalie.  2-1 up at half time was more than any of us expected.  The second half was downhill for us and we made the most of it with our defence standing firm and Joseph having a great game in goal.  Lots of goalmouth action at the wrong end for us saw a few balls scrambled off the line, but there was no way through for the opposition.  On a breakaway Cameron took a chance half way into their half and surprised their keeper with a shot on target which squeezed through for 3-1.  The defence held firm for the final 15 minutes to leave us with a superb victory.  Well done to the whole team for such a battling performance.

4th November Guildford Saints Blues, away to Frimley Green Cougars

A very exciting match today saw our best performance yet this season.  Our passing play was superb in the first half and we were extremely unlucky to be leading by just the one goal from Cameron.  James played a great game in goal, looking very confident and shouting at his defence to support him.  The second half started the same way with a second goal by Cameron and a shot from Jody that hit the underside of the bar, but stayed out (second time in two weeks!).

Unfortunately we tired towards the end and gave them too much room to think, resulting in two powerful shots that James had no chance with and a 2-2 draw.  Hopefully we can learn from this in future weeks.

Guildford Saints Blues 2 – 1 Worplesdon Tornados

28th October

Great game today with all of the boys working so hard for each other.  A goal in each half from Cameron, but could have had many more with both Ben and Jody hitting massive strikes only to see the crossbar come to the rescue of the opposition.  Zack and Josh were also unlucky not to score with super crosses from Andrew.  Just as importantly, when they got a goal back, the defence did not panic.  Ben, Bradley and Louie were so secure, making life a lot easier for Joseph than our last outing where we lost 0-8!  Man of the match Jake was all over the field, fitting in so well on his first outing for the club.

30/9/07 Guildford Saints Blues, away to Staines Lammas Blues

What a way to start the league season!  Louie won the ball from the opposition, ran half the length of the field and scored a great solo goal within 30 seconds of the season starting.  Cameron nearly made it 2 within five minutes, but was unlucky to hit the side netting.  A well taken goal from Staines followed with Joseph having no chance to stop it, then after some great passing moves, Jody controlled the ball well on the edge of the box, turned past two defenders, looked up and stroked the ball into the corner of the net.  Towards the end of the first half, another strong attack saw Cameron shoot from an acute angle.  Jody did what all good poaching centre forwards do and stuck his foot on it to make sure, but - from where I was standing I ruled that the ball had already crossed the line (sorry Jody!!), so three goals in the first half and three different scorers.  Ben and Bradley were so good in defence, supported by the midfield, that Staines had very few opportunities, but Joseph was always in the right place when they did threaten.

As expected, the second half was a bit quieter, but we still created lost of opportunities with Cameron being the only one to actually make it count to ease us into a 4-1 lead.  With 5 minutes to go, a quick breakaway from Staines saw them pull one back which James had no chance of stopping, so a comfortable 4-2 win to make up for the tricky seeding games we have had over the last few weeks.

All of the boys worked really hard and will need a rest this afternoon.  Well done to every one of them, they did me proud.
